Microsoft is launching its "European Security Program," a new initiative offering free, AI-driven cybersecurity tools and intelligence to governments across Europe. The program helps nations combat more sophisticated digital threats, particularly those leveraging artificial intelligence.

  • Upgraded threats: The move comes as Microsoft highlights a digital environment fraught with "persistent threat activity" from nation-states like Russia and China, alongside growing challenges from Iran, North Korea, and cybercriminals using Ransomware-as-a-Service. A key worry is attackers' rising use of AI for reconnaissance, social engineering, and crafting attacks, demanding more advanced defenses.

  • Microsoft's counter-play: The European Security Program rests on three core pillars: boosting AI-driven threat intelligence tailored to each nation; investing in local cybersecurity capacity through partnerships with organizations like Europol’s European Cybercrime Centre (EC3) and the CyberPeace Institute; and expanding collaborations to disrupt attacks.

The program is a component of Microsoft's broader "European Digital Commitments," announced five weeks prior. It reflects the company's strategy to position itself as a dedicated partner in fortifying Europe's digital resilience and future.
